Today is vet day for all the birds that were taken in last week. We will have a better idea of what we're dealing with health wise once today is over. Please pray that all will go well and we have enough time for everyone to be examined by the Vets. I get the wonderful opportunity to drive over an hour each way with 10 very loud birds.
My nerves might be shot by the end of the day... no doubt I will be able to hear less.
It is with very sad news that I report the passing (Monday night) of the previous owner of all these birds. the last three birds were removed from the home yesterday... and area safe in the hands of the other rescue facility.
Let me make it clear... the conditions that these birds were kept in was unexcusable. I am hoping that this can be a teaching tool for everyone to learn from. I'm sure that they at one time were well cared for, cleaned, fed a proper diet, housed properly, etc. however due to the owners illness things got out of hand. The MISTAKE was in not getting help from a reputable facility sooner. This owner might have been sick a long time- but I know personally she was still up and talking, able to make phone calls, etc. until at least Sunday of this week. She (and the family) should have called for help much sooner. Please, let this be a lesson to us all.. if we know anyone that has pets of any kind and know that the owner is sick... please check in on the pets. Volunteer to help or find help if needed. Had someone checked in on this lady many months ( or possibly years) ago we could have avoided the birds being surrnedered in this horrible condition. It just makes sense.
Please remember this family in your prayers. We know this is hard for everyone involved. We as rescuers are called to help the animals (birds, cats, dogs.. all God's creatures) but are blessed along the way to be given the opportunity to minister to the humans as well. I personally feel that this is just one more benefit to my bird rescue role... I am priviledged to meet and many times help the humans as well. May we never forget this part of our job. We are BLESSED to be a blessing. Don't forfeit this opportunity.

This is spice BEFORE her beak trim last Monday.

Excited!
